Community still in the dark about Cedar Woods profit from public land grab: Greens

17th September 2014

Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren has demanded that the State Government reveal how much Cedar Woods – a private property development company – will profit from the public land grab of Point Peron for the development of Mangles Bay Marina.

The land was transferred by the Commonwealth to the State of Western Australia on condition that the future use of the land would be restricted to recreation and parklands.
“Point Peron was intended to be for the benefit of all Western Australians, not just those who can afford to buy into a tourism precinct and canal estate.

“We have another nonsensical project that is ruining precious Western Australia flora and fauna and we have no idea how much a private company will profit from it.

“The development could have serious and probably irreversible impacts on the fragile marine and terrestrial environment, the community deserves to know how much private companies will profit from this loss.

“I will be demanding in Parliament the tabling of all legal advice obtained on the implications of breaking the 1964 Point Peron Commonwealth State land Transfer Agreement. I will also ask how much LandCorp stands to profit and what percentage of profit will Cedar Woods (and associated companies) profit from the use of this land which was given to the people of WA for recreational use.

“I think I speak for the community when I say ‘come clean about the profits’, we have waited long enough”.
