Save Nowergup Lake Rally

lake nowergupLynn is pictured here at the recent rally to Save Nowergup Lake.  Hundreds of residents, politicians and local councillors were rallying to stop a limestone quarry and concrete batching plant being built less than 400 metres from the Nowergup Lake, the deepest permanent wetland left on the Swan Coastal Plain.

Limestone WA plans to appeal against a local council decision which stops it from building the quarry on Waneroo Road, near Neerabup.

Death not the best measure of cruelty according to Animal Welfare Unit

The percentage of animals who die on live export ships is not the best measure of animal welfare, since it doesn’t indicate suffering and can drastically under-represent onboard mortality rates when compared with on-farm mortality rates.

The comments were made by Dr Jeni Hood, Scientific and General Inspector of the State’s Animal Welfare Unit. Dr Hood was speaking at Wednesday’s public hearing before the Environment and Public Affairs Committee into the live export trade.

Setting meaningful targets for reducing emissions

"I am heartened by news from nations around the globe of new, higher emissions targets. This begins to restore hope that we can save more ecosystems and species from habitat loss due to climate change,” said Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren.

Senator Christine Milne has released information to inform the debate in Australia about lifting our target above 5%.
