Cape Peron Tourism Precinct Project- Environmental Investigations

Question Without Notice No. 1165 asked in the Legislative Council on 19 November 2009 by Hon Lynn Maclaren

Parliament:
38 Session: 1

CAPE PERON TOURISM PRECINCT PROJECT — ENVIRONMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS

1165. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Regional Development:

I refer to the government’s decision to fund the preliminary environmental investigations for the proposed Cape Peron tourism precinct project through the Rockingham development office of LandCorp.

(1) What investigations are being commissioned?

(2) How will the consultants be, or how have they been, selected?

(3) What are the required outputs?

(4) How long will these investigations take?

Hon WENDY DUNCAN replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question.

(1) LandCorp, not the Rockingham development office, is funding the preliminary environmental investigations for the proposed Cape Peron tourism precinct project. The investigations that are being commissioned are planning, environmental and engineering.

(2) The consultants have been selected through LandCorp’s procurement process as an extension of the phase 1 works.

(3) There will be preliminary investigations to assist with the next stage of the Cape Peron tourism precinct project planning and approvals processes.

(4) The investigations are part of a forecast two-year approval phase. Once a private sector partner is selected, carriage of these activities will be undertaken by the selected group.
