Lynn MacLaren to march with AME at Mardi Gras

 

Greens spokesperson for Marriage Equality Lynn MacLaren says she is proud to be marching with the Australian Marriage Equality (AME) float at Mardi Gras 2015, taking place in Sydney tomorrow.

Ms MacLaren recognised the fabulous work AME is doing in advocating for same-sex marriage equality Australia-wide and said it was the single most important issue facing the LGBTQI community.

Marriage Equality Bill and Debate on Constitutional Validity

Hon LYNN MacLAREN (Thursday, 29 November 2012): Thank you, Mr President. The bill before us is, on our advice from the eminent George Williams, not in breach of the Constitution in that it is related to same-sex marriage, and the federal Marriage Act is related to marriage between a man and a woman. This bill and similar bills have been read in other jurisdictions; I know that is not the most important thing, but other states in Australia have also heard this bill and it has not been ruled out of order on that basis. But, of course, we would be very keen to hear your ruling at some point.

Greens Table Marriage Equality Bill

Lynn MacLaren MLC, Greens (WA) spokesperson on marriage equality, today presented a state-based legislative solution for same-sex couples who wish to marry.

“The Marriage Equality Bill 2012 provides for same-sex marriage, including the authorisation of celebrants and the registration of same-sex marriages via an amendment to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1998,” said Ms MacLaren.

Greens move for Marriage Equality in WA

The Greens today advised the WA Parliament they will introduce a Marriage Equality Bill 2012.

The Bill will enable same-sex couples to marry in Western Australia. Like other Greens State Bills in Australia, it will authorise celebrants, establish a system of registration and provide for dissolution and annulment of same sex marriages.

“All eyes are on Canberra now, but our Bill stands ready in the wings so that Western Australians can enjoy marriage equality alongside residents in Tasmania and the other states who have already signalled their support for gay marriage,” Ms MacLaren said. Read more »
