EPA Statement: Level of Assessment for Vasse Coal Management’s Vasse Coal Proposal

Summary: The EPA Board considered this proposal at its meeting on 17 March 2011. The EPA determined, based on the referral information and its own investigations and inquiries, that there is adequate information to demonstrate that Vasse Coal Management’s coal mining proposal is environmentally unacceptable.

Greens Welcome EPA Decision on Margaret River Coal

Lynn MacLaren MLC, Greens planning spokesperson, joined Giz Watson in welcoming the EPA’s decision that the Vasse Coal mining proposal in Margaret River would be unacceptable environmentally, and congratulated the NoCoalition for their proactive campaign opposing the proposal.

 “The community has grown from strength to strength in developing their arguments against the proposal. An international supporter base has been established across a range of interests, from tourism and agricultural to security of water supply,” Ms MacLaren said today. Read more »

Setting meaningful targets for reducing emissions

"I am heartened by news from nations around the globe of new, higher emissions targets. This begins to restore hope that we can save more ecosystems and species from habitat loss due to climate change,” said Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren.

Senator Christine Milne has released information to inform the debate in Australia about lifting our target above 5%.
