Bike plan lacks vision, funding and integration with land use planning

Hon Lynn MacLaren, the WA Greens transport spokesperson welcomed the Western Australian Bicycle Network Plan, released today, but criticised it for its lack of vision, funding, and integration with the Government’s Directions 2031 plan.

“It will take more than this plan to address the Government’s legacy of neglect when it comes to funding cycling infrastructure,” said Ms MacLaren.

"Perth is one of the most car dependent cities in the world, with 82 per cent of trips taken by car and only 1.6 per cent by bicycle (1). This is a direct result of the Government’s failure to properly invest in cycling infrastructure.” Read more »

“I urge you to find a way to stop the trees’ removal at least long enough for officers to review the plans and reports and determine whether or not the loss of these trees will impact on the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo,” wrote Ms MacLaren in an 11th hour bid to avoid the conflict. Read more »
