Could this little moth put the brakes on Roe 8?

Lynn MacLaren MLC has called on the Barnett government to cancel the Roe 8 extension once and for all, after evidence emerged that the critically endangered Graceful Sun-Moth was found along the route of the proposed highway.

The scientist behind the discovery was Murdoch Tafe Environmental Restoration lecturer, Neil Goldsborough (BSc).

Roe 8 update following June 1 rally

On Tuesday June 1, SouthMetro Connect held an information day and revealed the latest potential design of the Roe Highway extension through Beeliar wetlands.

The 'Discussion Drawing' that was shown to the general public raised a number of concerns. We would like to highlight just a couple.

Firstly, the local Blue Gum Montessori School and the Lake Side Recreation Centre are not labelled on the map, even though they are both very close to the proposed highway. The Roe extension cuts off the recreation centre from those who use it most - residents of Bibra Lake.

Greens dismiss “sandbags and roads” budget

"$60 million on bitumen and infrastructure in our National Parks will do nothing to protect WA’s unique and threatened biodiversity,” said Greens spokesperson on the environment Giz Watson MLC.

"There is no money in the budget to expand the conservation estate instead there will be more tourist pressure and more roads. The community expects the environment budget to be spent on conservation not road building," Ms Watson said.

Cockburn Cement protest rally

Hundreds of people held a protest rally near the Cockburn Cement factory on Saturday May 8, voicing concerns about corrosive dust and odour.

There have been more than 50 complaints lodged with the Department of Environment and Protection this year.

The office of Lynn Maclaren MLC recently made a submission on the Cockburn Cement Draft License.
