Greens’ Bid to Protect Water Mound Fails

Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren moved in Parliament to stop urban encroachment at Banjup saying it puts the Jandakot Water Mound at risk and will unacceptably expose residents to aircraft noise.

“Unfortunately, much of the area has been cleared for a sand quarry with little conservation value left at the site. But what lies above and below the Banjup site makes it unsuitable for new neighbourhoods,” said Ms MacLaren, Greens spokesperson on planning.

I move that the Bill now be read a second time.

Firstly Mr President, pursuant to standing order 126(1), I advise that this bill is not a uniform legislation bill. It does not ratify or give effect to an intergovernmental or multilateral agreement to which the government of the state is a party; nor does this bill, by reason of its subject matter, introduce a uniform scheme or uniform laws throughout the commonwealth.

Health Risks Too Great for Keralup

Perth’s growing population should avoid Keralup due to public health risks and contamination to groundwater, Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren said in Parliament today in a move to stop an urban rezoning proposal.

Greens spokesperson on planning Lynn MacLaren said the Parliament should disallow the metropolitan region scheme amendment that proposes a major clearing at Keralup, a site formerly known as Amarillo between Rockingham and Mandurah, in a loop of the Serpentine River.

Greens Bill Plugs the Climate Change Gap

As emergency service workers mop up after the most recent storm damage the Greens WA are today releasing a comprehensive strategy to mitigate the impact of climate change on coastal communities.

Greens spokesperson on planning Lynn MacLaren said the strategy would plug obvious gaps in the state’s current planning legislation.

“No-one wants their house foundations washing out to sea,” Ms MacLaren said.
