Opposition to Point Peron development heats up

Plans for a luxury house canal development to replace an A-class reserve near a marine sanctuary have outraged residents throughout Perth, who remember Point Peron near Rockingham as a school camp memory.

The state government has already spent millions on the plans, in partnership with a developer.

Lynn MacLaren MLC continues to put pressure on the government to justify the environmental and cultural damage that will occur if the marina goes ahead.

Greens dismiss “sandbags and roads” budget

"$60 million on bitumen and infrastructure in our National Parks will do nothing to protect WA’s unique and threatened biodiversity,” said Greens spokesperson on the environment Giz Watson MLC.

"There is no money in the budget to expand the conservation estate instead there will be more tourist pressure and more roads. The community expects the environment budget to be spent on conservation not road building," Ms Watson said.

Cockburn Cement protest rally

Hundreds of people held a protest rally near the Cockburn Cement factory on Saturday May 8, voicing concerns about corrosive dust and odour.

There have been more than 50 complaints lodged with the Department of Environment and Protection this year.

The office of Lynn Maclaren MLC recently made a submission on the Cockburn Cement Draft License.

This submission was informed by consultation with local constituents and experts in the field of heavy industry pollution and toxicity. Read more »

South Perth’s Stimulus Funds Wisely Invested

South Metro MLC Lynn MacLaren met Prime Minister Julia Gillard at the invitation of Mayor of South Perth James Best, who was delighted to give Ms Gillard a tour of the new civic building and library in construction thanks to Infrastructure Australia funding.

An installation at Sir James Mitchell Park will receive funds in the current round, as announced by the Deputy Prime Minister today.

Road planners leave track and damage soil

17 March 2010 Lynn inspected a tract of land in the Beeliar wetlands this morning where a four wheel drive truck has left deep ruts in the soil near this year's plantings.

The damage is believed to have been caused by hydrological surveyors who strayed from established tracks to drill test bores.
