Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren revealed today the impacts climate change is having on Cockburn, and called for state government action to relieve pressure on local council efforts to adapt to climate change.
“Modest predictions see the coastal facilities along Jervoise Bay and Woodman Point under water by 2100. In just the moderate projections released by Australian Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, the spits, groynes and jetties that are currently used in this area in particular are going to disappear by 2100. This is based on a 0.8 metre rise in sea level.
“Unfortunately, there will also be a further increase in high tide, bringing inundation to areas 1.4 metres above current sea level.
