The plant commenced operations in 1951. Since this time, the surrounding areas have been turned into residential developments and residents are being seriously affected by the emissions from the plant.

Greens call for urgent action to protect WA’s precious wetlands

The Greens are calling for urgent action to protect what is left of Perth’s dwindling wetlands saying not even those listed as internationally significant are getting the protection they need.

Rockingham ahead of the game on climate change

With higher than expected sea water temperatures and faster than predicted sea level rise, the Greens say WA needs to follow the example set by Rockingham on climate change.

Greens spokesperson on planning, Lynn MacLaren MLC, said Rockingham’s showing the way and the rest of Western Australia can’t afford a piecemeal approach any longer.

Life at Jervoise Bay and Woodman Point to Change in New Climate

Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren revealed today the impacts climate change is having on Cockburn, and called for state government action to relieve pressure on local council efforts to adapt to climate change.

“Modest predictions see the coastal facilities along Jervoise Bay and Woodman Point under water by 2100. In just the moderate projections released by Australian Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, the spits, groynes and jetties that are currently used in this area in particular are going to disappear by 2100. This is based on a 0.8 metre rise in sea level.

“Unfortunately, there will also be a further increase in high tide, bringing inundation to areas 1.4 metres above current sea level.
