Bike plan lacks vision, funding and integration with land use planning

Hon Lynn MacLaren, the WA Greens transport spokesperson welcomed the Western Australian Bicycle Network Plan, released today, but criticised it for its lack of vision, funding, and integration with the Government’s Directions 2031 plan.

“It will take more than this plan to address the Government’s legacy of neglect when it comes to funding cycling infrastructure,” said Ms MacLaren.

"Perth is one of the most car dependent cities in the world, with 82 per cent of trips taken by car and only 1.6 per cent by bicycle (1). This is a direct result of the Government’s failure to properly invest in cycling infrastructure.” Read more »

Tier 3 lines should be retained to keep the road toll down

Hon Lynn MacLaren MLC, the Greens transport spokesperson, supported the Wheatbelt Railway Retention Alliance’s call for the retention of Tier 3 freight rail lines today inside Parliament and on the steps, as the group handed over a petition today.

“Closing Tier 3 lines will result in more trucks on our roads in both the Wheatbelt and the Perth Metropolitan area, as they deliver grain to the Kwinana Freight Terminal. Restoring our Tier 3 lines in WA should be an urgent transport funding priority for the WA government,” said Ms MacLaren. Read more »
