Cuts to road safety programs will risk the safety of our most vulnerable

Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren says State Government cuts to funding for road safety programs risks the safety of our most vulnerable road users – pedestrians, cyclists, scooter riders and motorcyclists.

“Though the Road Safety Council approved the position, the State Government cut funds for the officer who implemented the recommendations from the Cycling Safety Forums, and the Motorcycle and Scooter Safety Forums,” said Ms MacLaren.

“The effort was strongly supported by many volunteers who worked to improve road safety for all. These cuts are mean.”

“The state government’s cut to the Road User Coordinator position through the Road Trauma Trust Account flies in the face of all recommendations to make our roads safer.”
