DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES

73. Hon Lynn MacLaren to the Minister for Disability Services:

How many people affected by disability in Western Australia are:

(a) eligible for disability care and support services within Western Australia;

(b) eligible for My Way:

(i) under the trial program; and

(ii) when fully implemented;

(c) how many people have been offered the program;

(d) how many have been able to put their program in motion;

(e) how many My Way packages have been delivered to date, including time-frames for planning, preparation and implementation?

Hon Helen Morton replied:

(a) It is not possible to determine the total number of people who are eligible for disability support services. Registration with the Disability Services Commission is voluntary and some people choose not to apply for or access services. Currently approximately 23,000 people access Disability Services Commission funded and provided services.

(b) All people in Western Australia who are eligible for Disability Services Commission funded and provided services, and live in one of the four designated My Way locations (17% of the state).

i. All people in Western Australia who are eligible for Disability Services Commission funded and provided services, and live in one of the four designated My Way locations

ii. If the program is fully implemented, all people in Western Australia who are eligible for Disability Services Commission funded and provided services will be eligible for My Way

(c) 1750 people

(d) 1500 people have commenced planning and implementing their program.

(e) Planning has commenced and in line with NDIS launch sites, new packages of funding will become available from 1 July 2013 to people living in the Lower South West My Way area. The roll out of My Way in the Lower South West will take place in parallel with the NDIS launch sites. Additional people will be able to access support in the Lower South West My Way area, in line with the NDIS eligibility and reasonable and necessary criteria. Whilst the NDIS legislation gives a broad statement of eligibility, the detail of how this will apply has not yet been finalised. Until this is the case, the exact numbers of additional people who will receive support are unknown.
