Energy ratings for houses
The Greens (WA) believe that housing should be economically, environmentally and socially sustainable. There should be a reduction in the total environmental impact of housing, during construction, throughout the life of the building and in demolition and rebuilding. Efficiencies should come through house design, in order to minimise water usage, maximise energy efficiency and minimise whole-of-life-cycle environmental footprint.
The work of Chiara Pacifici and Greens Gurus in building capacity within the real estate profession to communicate sustainability measures to sellers, buyers, landlords and tenants is inspiring. The attached reports look at moving housing towards higher efficiencies and sustainability workshops for the real estate industry. It highlights a need for training, support and government funding to roll out National Education Workshops designed to better inform and prepare the real estate industry for a shift towards a low carbon future.
