Lynn MacLaren MLC supports DonateLife Week 2011
Lynn today announced her support for Australia's first DonateLife Week, being held across the nation from Sunday 20 February to increase Australia's organ and tissue donation rates.
As part of DonateLife Week Lynn attended the Great Debate on Organ and Tissue Donation at the Fremantle Town Hall Sunday.
The Minister for Health will officially launch the Week at a media event on Tuesday at the new DonateLife Offices, Suite 3, 311 Wellington St, Perth.
DonateLife Week will offer many opportunities for Australians to talk about organ and tissue donation through community events, social media and other activities.
This year's DonateLife Week 2011 brings together all participants in the organ and tissue sector to ask Australians to have a memorable discussion with their loved ones to ensure they know and understand their organ and tissue donation wishes.
Lynn acknowledges that talking about organ and tissue donation with loved ones can be difficult but believes DonateLife Week helps make the conversations easier.
"I encourage anyone who hasn't had the discussion with those close to them to do it today."
This is important because family consent is always sought before donation can proceed.
