The Australian Greens have called for a full retraction from Liberal Senator Chris Back over his allegations that workers at Indonesian abattoirs were paid to mistreat Australian Cattle.
Senator Back made the comments in a Senate Inquiry hearing into welfare standards in Australia's live exports market.
"It is absolutely clear from the evidence given by ABC's Four Corners, and journalist Sarah Ferguson in particular that Senator Back's claims are baseless," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens agriculture spokesperson said today.
"Evidence from Sarah Ferguson supported the integrity of the footage collected at Indonesian abattoirs by Animals Australia.
"There is no doubt that Four Corners went to substantial effort to substantiate the veracity of the footage they broadcast as part of the report that exposed the cruelty taking place in Indonesian abattoirs.
"Senator Back should retract his claims and make a full public apology to Animals Australia, in particular to Lyn White," Senator Siewert concluded.
