Science & Innovation
"The science of today is the technology of tomorrow." -Edward Teller
Innovations in science and technology are advancing our world at an incredible pace. Not only is science an important tool for developing a deeper understanding of the universe, but it has the capacity to enhance the wellbeing of people. Lynn believes that government has an important role to play in the development of scientific knowledge through:
- Developing the ethical framework in which scientific research is conducted
- Preventing adverse environmental and social impacts of emerging technologies, including nanotechnology
- Promoting environmental technologies as a powerful engine for the creation of national wealth and high-paying jobs
- Supporting innovation in advanced technology and methods as key elements for success in business and industry
- Making information and communication technology available to help maintain the viability of rural and remote communities
Lynn is working hard in Parliament toward a research and development culture that prepares Western Australia for emerging challenges and opportunities. Advances in science and technology are essential in addressing issues such as climate change and the transition to a sustainable society. There should be a focus on innovative technology and methods as well as community involvement in decisions about safe development of new technologies.
